Julio Cacho, Ph.D. - Founding Partner
Julio is founder and Chief Investment Officer of Quantor Capital. Julio has more than 15 years of combined professional and academic experience in financial statistical research, optimal investment selection, and investment risk management. Previously, Julio was a director of risk and performance at Ziff Brothers Investments, a private multi-billion dollar family office in New York City. At Ziff, Julio developed investment and hedging strategies as a quantitative researcher, and implemented risk management strategies. Julio holds a masters of finance and doctor of philosophy (P.h.D.) in finance and economics from Princeton University. He received a B.SC. in Actuarial Science and an M.A. in economics with highest honors from ITAM University, in Mexico City. Julio is currently a faculty member at Rice University and has taught at Princeton University, ITAM, and the Swiss Finance Institute. Julio has also been a seminar speaker at top universities and financial institutions. Julio won the 2005 Citi-Banamex research in economics prize and has published articles about optimal portfolio selection in peer-reviewed academic journals.
Juan Carlos Herrera - Founding Partner
Juan Carlos is founder, head portfolio manager, and co-founder of Quantor Capital. After graduating from the University of Texas in Austin, Juan Carlos began his financial career in Madrid, Spain working for a boutique consulting firm. In 2006, Juan Carlos came back to the United States and joined Citigroup where he held positions in wealth management and private banking for affluent families. In 2008, Juan Carlos left Citi to start a quantitative hedge fund, QL Capital Management. While at QL Capital Management, Juan Carlos helped design, develop, and trade unique short term trading strategies that invested in over 80 markets. Juan Carlos has a B.A. from the University of Texas at Austin and currently holds a Series 65 and 3 FINRA licenses.
Cole Conkling, J.D. - Partner
Cole is a Partner and Managing Director at Quantor Capital. Prior to joining Quantor Capital, in April 2019, Cole was an associate at the national litigation boutique McDowell Hetherington LLP, where he litigated commercial disputes for major corporations and insurers. Prior to that, Cole was a litigation associate for over five years at Andrews Kurth LLP (now Hunton Andrews Kurth LLP), where he represented multinational corporations in some of their most complex and high stakes disputes. He received his B.A. in Biology from The University of Texas at Austin, in 2005, and his J.D. from The University of Houston Law Center, in 2010, where he graduated cum laude, served as the Energy Editor of The Houston Journal of International Law, and was a member of the Order of the Barons. Cole served as a briefing clerk for the Texas First Court of Appeals and for a United States Magistrate Judge. Cole holds a Series 65 license. He is a board member of The Children’s Fund, an all-volunteer non-profit that raises money for early-stage, Houston-area children’s charities; a member of St. Martin’s Episcopal Church; a past committee chair of the Houston Bar Association; and a fellow of both the Texas Bar Foundation and Houston Bar Foundation.
Alejandro Diego - Partner
Alejandro co-founded QL Capital SA de CV in September of 2006 and registered as a Commodity Trading Advisor (CTA) to offer a proprietary trend-following Managed Futures program to investors . In February of 2013, thanks to a capital investment from a seed-investor, QL Capital Management was formed in Houston to offer the program to U.S investors through a fund vehicle managed by Alejandro. QL Capital Management IP was sold to Emil Van Essen LLC, in May of 2016, As portfolio manager and research analyst at Emil Van Essen, Alejandro was in charge of incorporating QL trading strategies into EVE’s futures program, as well as doing research into new quantitative trading algorithms for various markets. Alejandro has been the founder of six different companies, including MacWare, Ollin VFX, MacZone of Mexico, Oelli, Solexico, Grupo StarMaya, and QL Capital Management. He has over 10 years of trading experience and has a degree in Electronic Engineering from Rice University, in Houston, Texas.
